Arriving at The China Fleet Country Club

The China Fleet Country Club is off the A38, near the Tamar Bridge in Saltash. It offers a myriad of activities for young and old and is set in 180 acres of exquisite countryside on the edge of the Tamar valley.

From Fairy Trails and Adventure Golf to swimming and a well-provisioned gym. Soft play to relaxing massages and wellness treatments. 18-hole golf course to a 4* brasserie dining experience, with afternoon tea available. Not to mention the comfiest self-catering rooms we’ve stayed in for a while!

China Fleet Club is definitely somewhere you will want to check out, at any time of year!

The Booking Process and Accommodation

What can I say about the staff? They left me speechless with their professional and wonderfully kind approach! We booked by phone, as this was a last-minute booking on our campervan tour. The first response was that no rooms were available due to a wedding party, which is what happens when it is one of the top recommended wedding event locations in the Southwest!

Within a few minutes, the lovely lady had moved some things around to accommodate us.

With a choice between many different self-catering apartments, there is lots of variety. We stayed in a Lynher Plus Apartment with two bedrooms and were very content with the cleanliness and facilities.

You get free use of the club site, including the China Fleet spa, and fresh milk brought to you every morning, to name just two! And there is a long list of discounted upgrades to choose from as well.

Family Friendliness at China Fleet Country Club

We arrived early evening on the Friday evening of our stay but were warmly welcomed. They even asked if we wanted a table in the restaurant or to eat at the Cabin bar, where there was live entertainment. We had a light bite while watching the singer, who was amazing, before heading to bed.

The activities on offer over the weekend were second to none! Adventure golf, Fairy Trail, swimming pool with slide and fountains, fully provisioned gym with friendly and helpful staff… Not to mention an indoor soft play and outdoor playground! The club has definitely made sure there is something to do for all ages at any time of the day!

Barn Spa – Your Wellness Taken Care Of

My partner and I took turns with our daughter in the pool on our first morning while each of us enjoyed the Aqua Spa. Sauna, Aromatherapy Steam Room, Salt Steam Room, Foot Spa, Spa Pool, Laconicum…. It was heaven! And Bean loved the slide, bubble volcanoes, fountains and space in the pool.

I also sneaked a look in the China Fleet Club Spa and got blown away by its tranquillity. Set in one of the original stone buildings, it offers a wide range of treatments and therapies to suit all needs. From Sports Therapy and Mind, Body, Bowen to beauty treatments such as waxing and eyebrow threading, there is something for everyone!

I booked myself in for a Signature manicure and pedicure on our second day and was not disappointed! The staff were truly lovely, and the treatment was second to none. Soaking, exfoliating and soothing… Followed by acupressure and massage… Finished off with nail painting.

For £60, I couldn’t have been happier! My hands and feet felt brand new and looked great as well!

Fresh Air for Everyone

With better weather in the afternoon, we tried our hand on the Adventure Golf course before having a coffee at the Cabin bar.

There is a small natural playground there, so Bean could run around while we relaxed and enjoyed the gorgeous coffee and hot chocolate on offer. The Fairy Trail (£3 was well worth it for an amazing adventure trail to help the Fairy’s find their fairy dust!) provided a perfect stroll along the riverbank, finding the fairy houses and reading the information boards.

China Fleet Country Club Golf Course

While we did the Fairy Trail, my partner was able to practice his swing at the China Fleet Golf Club. There is a full 18-hole golf course on site. Clubs and buggies are available for hire, and there is also a fully stocked shop. The staff were really welcoming, and he even managed to get some tips from a professional golfer to improve his swing!

The Toptracer Driving Range was very impressive. As he said, “the use of technology creates an immersive data-driven experience”. This means you can choose an iconic course to play on, play interactive games, or take aim at virtual targets. All while, it analyses your movements and gives you tips. It cost £6 for 50 balls, and he got to take part in a Closest to the Pin challenge! Not that he got anywhere close… But the bit he was most excited about was being able to order a drink to his bay, using an app! Very clever little touch.

Food at China Fleet Country Club

Bellissimo! Simply gorgeous across our entire stay and definitely 4*. The menu is quite small but varied, including breakfasts, small lunches, burgers, grills and more traditional meals. There is also a specials board and a simple kid’s menu. Cakes, ice creams, and a fully stocked bar round out the Brasserie dining area. With a separate space for afternoon teas and special events.

We indulged in an Afternoon tea before leaving on Sunday and couldn’t finish it! For £12.95 each, we had a selection of sandwiches, quiche and sausage rolls—scones, cakes and biscuits as the sweet treats and tea or coffee. We felt very fat afterwards, but it was delicious.

Expensive, But Worth It!

A search for China Fleet and County Club Reviews will yield innumerable positive responses. We happily endorse them! From the room to the food to the activities, it was simply the best way to end our Cornwall Road Trip.

Yes, it was quite expensive, around £400 all told, including the apartment, food, spa and golf. But the welcoming feel of the location, staff and other people are worth it. Our little one thoroughly enjoyed every second of the weekend and slept soundly each night. Which is a win in itself!

As we live quite close to Saltash, we have signed up as members because we were so blown away by this little gem! Prices start from £63 per month for a couple and £11.25 for a child over 6 with full use of the health club facilities. A membership for 1 person is £42.75, and kids under 6 are free. Golf memberships are also available, as well as pay-as-you-play memberships. You can view more about that here.

Now we are able to make use of the term time kids club (included in the price!), twice a week from 4:15 to 6:15. We can enjoy the gym, a class, the pool, or the spa while she makes friends and learns new skills. And that’s before you consider the unlimited gym and pool use, the aqua spa, and many friends, well-paced fitness classes this wonderful club offers!

China Fleet Saltash should definitely be on your bucket list of places for your next trip to Cornwall. Be it on work duties or with family! You will not be disappointed!
